JS&IP Section 4

Decency

Decency builds connections.

We engage respectfully with the public, sources, subjects, our audience and others. When our position requires us to ask hard questions, we shall do so in a respectful manner. We do not advance the questions, theories, opinions, or voices of individuals or groups or causes that support violence, hatred, or criminal acts that involve victims.

We do give voice to those not always heard. We strive to present a diversity of viewpoints.

We always balance the public interest in knowing information against the potential harm the sharing of the information may cause.

Journalists act with integrity, honesty, respectfulness and understanding, and are expected to show compassion when appropriate. We treat others how we would want our loved ones to be treated.
