Accuracy

Accuracy is paramount. 

Facts matter and it’s our job to find them, confirm them, and present them. The rush to tell the story first is never as important as telling the story accurately. Being accurate, even if it takes longer or is far more difficult, is always the most important thing to a Journalist. 

We must be open to receive constructive criticism of our accuracy from any legitimate source, and follow the appropriate steps in the JS&IP when we are inaccurate or make a mistake. 

Journalists must take careful steps to verify information before publication. These steps include assessing the credibility of the Source, seeking evidence, distinguishing between fact and mere assertion, providing context, providing attribution, and promptly and unequivocally correcting errors and mistakes.
