Citizen Journalist Initiative
Kamloops 24 Hours is launching a new program aimed at encouraging participation in local news coverage by non-traditional journalists. The Citizen Journalist Initiative gives anyone a chance to have their stories published.
Our Citizen Journalist Initiative is an independent project started by us. Our goal is to showcase the power of modern citizens to report on the news while supporting them with journalistic standards and editing.
We seek to bring smaller scale local news gatherers content to a larger audience, while pushing back on the common criticisms that arise. Participants in the initiative work with the News Department to have their stories verified, fact checked and edited by staff. This adds a layer of trust for the reader and a level of legitimacy for the journalist.
We believe that more people engaging in responsible and ethical journalism is in the public interest. We also believe that local journalism is important, and to stay relevant we need to find new ways of sourcing accurate, fair and independent news content.
If you’re interested in having your work showcased please be in touch.
