Kamloops Budget Meeting Tonight

Kamloops City staff and Council will be hosting an in-person budget update tonight, Monday January 26th from 6pm to 8 pm. Residents are invited to the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre at 1655 Island Parkway. The City of Kamloops says the update will focus on the nine proposed budget items facing cuts.

A provisional budget released in November projected a tax increase this year of over 10%. The Kamloops Committee of the Whole approved a series of budget cuts at their last regular meeting, which leaves the provisional tax hike at over 7%.

Residents will be presented information and then be given a chance to ask questions and give feedback tonight. Those who are not able to attend the two hour evening meeting are out of luck, as the “in-person-event” event will not be live streamed. An “online participation option” is available from January 26th to February 6th.

Feedback collected at tonight’s meeting and online will be presented to the City Council to “help inform their 2026 budget decisions. The next budget report from City staff will be presented to the Committee of the Whole at their scheduled February 10th meeting.
